Reading Habits Book Tag!

Do you have a certain place at home for reading?

To be honest, I don’t have a specific place that I absolutely HAVE to read in. I read upstairs or downstairs depending on how hot it is in my room, usually (I live in Hawaii). My favorite place to read is in my bed at night, though! The only problem is that I fall asleep pretty easily if I am reading a book while lying down.

Bookmark or random piece of paper?

This actually varies a lot! Most of the time I will use a piece of paper but there are times where I will make my own corner bookmark out of origami paper or I will use those cute magnetic clip-on book marks. Recently I received a Ninth House leather bookmark, though, so I definitely plan to take advantage of that!

Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/a certain amount of pages?

I basically stop whenever I feel it is time to check social media or watch youtube videos instead, haha. Sometimes I will read a hundred pages and sometimes I will only read one page before stopping but I rarely ever wait till a new chapter or stop after a definitive number of pages. I have a pretty good memory of what was happening before I stopped (even if it’s been months and I have been reading multiple books in the meantime) and I always make sure to log what page I am on Goodreads to help myself out so it doesn’t really bother me.

Do you eat or drink whilst reading?

Not usually! I’m usually lying down when I read or I will be on a couch or something where there is no table/desk to set down foods + drinks in the first place.

Multitasking: Music or TV whilst reading?

I love having background noise whenever I do anything and reading is no exception! I’ll listen to music or a podcast or put on a tv show or youtube video in the background and I am still able to focus on the book when I have to.

One book at a time or several?

If you look at my Goodreads right now, you’ll see it says I am currently reading 14 books. I am actually reading way more than that but I am too embarrassed to say because 14 is already pretty ridiculous. I have A LOT of books I want to read because my love for reading didn’t start until I was already an adult so I have a lot of catching up to do. I want to finish them all as soon as I can so I’ll make progress on a ton of books at the same time and hopefully finish each “batch” around the same time. Knocking out that many books in quick succession makes me feel productive.

Reading at home or everywhere?

Everywhere! Most of my books are on the Kindle or Libby/Overdrive apps on my phone so I will read whenever I need to kill time outside of the house.

Read out loud or silently in your head?

Sometimes I will be “ambitious” and I will start reading a chapter out loud but it gets old fast. Usually my throat ends up getting sore or dry and I also read slower out loud so I just cut myself off and go back to reading silently in my head.

Do you read ahead or skip pages?

I don’t skip ahead! A lot of the books I like to read have darker elements or twists to them so I like being kept in the dark until the twist reveals itself naturally because I want to feel the full force of the impact. My favorite books are ones that make me feel really strong emotions (usually ones that make me cry my eyes out) and I would lose that if I spoiled myself/skipped pages/skimmed through/etc

Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

Keeping it as pristine as possible. I already hate it when the page corners are even a tiny bit bent/creased so broken spines and covers make me really sad.

Do you write in your books?

The only time I have ever written in a book was when I would highlight my loose leaf textbook pages in college. I never ever do it otherwise. I will put sticky notes or tabs in the book if something on the page is really important to me.
